Episode 46

Episode 46 is out and the scumbag Allies gang up on me by invading Rome and Tokyo in round 4! Hey America, we don't need your BS democracy! Who wants to stand in line in November just so they can 'vote' for one puppet or the other, we all know it's the same hand up both their butts! In our countries we leave all the decision making to the top guy and that leaves the citizens with far more free time. Stay out of our dictatorships!

Episode 43

Do you like Axis & Allies Global 1940 2nd Edition? Would you like to listen to drunken fools playing this game?

BEHOLD!

The 43rd episode of this little experiment wherein my buddies and I imbibe alcohol,  roll dice and question each others manhood while under the ear of YOU the listener!

Recorded on the 94th anniversary of Armistice Day we get through one round of play in this game that we love as our way of honouring the soldiers who have provided us with the freedom to act like the bafoons that we are. A dichotomy to be sure, but make no mistake, we are very thankful to those who have served. Thank You All!

Remembrance Day 2012

11 November

This is the day we remember our fallen soldiers as well as the veterans that are thankfully still with us. They have given us their service and in so doing our freedoms. Here in Canada it is called Remembrance Day, in the USA it is Veterans Day, abroad it is Armistice Day. Whatever you call it and wherever you are from it falls on the day peace was declared in the First World War. We hold ceremonies for the soldiers who are with us and those who no longer are. Thank you all for your service. We have one or two special days set aside to honour you but you should be in our thoughts always. We are who we are because of you. Thank You.

Every year for the past few years Ray, Mugzy and I have gotten together on Remembrance Day to play Axis & Allies no matter what day it falls on but this year it came on a Sunday and in our rotation of alternate Sundays that we normally play on. I'm not sure if this was a good thing or a bad thing but since Ray and I worked the night before we didn't get together until right before the 11:00 ceremonies in Ottawa. By the time we started rolling dice it was well past noon so we didn't take in quite the amount of alcohol we did for Victory Day last spring.

We decided to play Global 1940 with the 2nd edition set up and rules
I (Dave) was the Axis
Ray was the Pacific Allies
Mugzy was the Atlantic Allies

We did add Self Propelled Artillery as an option for purchase but not in the set up. They were 5IPC's each with movement of 2 and 2 on attack and defense, with the same boost to Infantry and Mechanized Infantry as regular Artillery.

Italy could not hit a thing during their turn which set me back pretty hard.
Japan on the other hand was doing amazing.

Here are the painted neutrals in action.
I wish I took a picture of this battle before we rolled dice. I was sunk if this attack by the USA had succeeded. In the end I out rolled Ray and that sealed the Allies fate. All those Marines were sunk shortly afterwards.
I took a shot earlier at Queensland and this set me back a round. In the end the Japanese took and held their 6 Victory Cities, Calcutta being the last.

A great time was had by all. The action from round 1 will be up tonight in podcast form.

Self Propelled Artillery

Just finished painting the Self Propelled Artillery for our mod to Global coming this Sunday.

Here they all are. The Soviets I did last month and then decided to order 21 each of the German and Allies SPA's and just paint them with similar camo as the nations tanks. I got all these units from Historical Boardgaming and they look fantastic. Eventually as they create nation specific units like they have with the Katyusha's for Russia, I will replace the generic units with them but for now these will do. Here are the pics:
ANZAC
 Germany
 Italy
 Japan
 United Kingdom
 USA

Also, If you scroll down to the bottom of the page you'll see a new poll about the Poles, North and South that is. Our group plays sitting the Axis at the South Pole and the Allies North. We have NEVER all sat at the same side of the table as the enemy and have always wondered why the game is designed and printed to be played that way. Place your votes and please leave any comments you'd like to below about your groups preferences.

Episode 39

New episode, new game! From last Sunday, Listen as we, most likely, screw up the rules to D-Day. It's our first time so bear that in mind. We opted for the out of box rules without the fortune or tactics cards. This episode goes through the first two rounds.

Any comments would be appreciated. You can leave them below or on iTunes, or @Dicetruction on Twitter.

D-Day

Yesterday we broke out a game new to us. This past Summer I acquired D-Day and we kept putting it off, until now. I loved it. We're not too sure if we played it right, as the fighters seem overly powerful despite only rolling ones. That said I rolled a shit load of ones. Ray and I played the Allies as Mugzy was the frustrated Axis who got killed just about every time he tried to move through a fighter.

All in all I found it to be a very fast paced game and would love to try it again.
After D-Day we moved on to the old 42 with Ray as the Axis, Mugzy and I as the Allies. Tanks seem to be the thing in this game

Russia has been holding her own for the time being but the Japanese are on their way. USA and UK have a good train coming into Europe now.
We had to call it a day and will continue next time where we left off. Usually when the Allies are well established around London the German menace is quite tame. Germany seems to be in pretty good shape though and Japan is back on the rise after loosing half it's navy. In two week we'll find out.

Edit: A sober Ray showed up Monday and declared the game an Allies victory, realizing the pinch Germany had on it and the state of Japan's advance. Congrats Mugzy, wherever you are.
