Episode 14

Sorry for this being a few days late, I've had it edited for a few days but as we were up in Oshawa last weekend for the Field Marshal Games Convention, I wanted to get a thank you in to everyone involved with the convention. This is round one of a new game of Axis & Allies Global 1940 Alpha 3 with Mugsy as the Allies this time and Ray and I splitting up the Allies.

Episode 13

In this episode Ray decides to play on due to the simple fact that there's beer left in the cooler.

Field Marshal Games Convention 2012

This weekend Ray and I headed up to Oshawa for the Second Annual Field Marshal Games Convention! It was amazing! Big thanks to everyone involved for making such an awesome event. We thought travelling a couple hours was a big deal until we met Garantua, who flew in from British Columbia, Dave from San Francisco, and Clyde/Nolan who drove up 12 hours from Connecticut! We arrived Friday night and checked out the venue, the 420 Wing RCAF which was next to the Ontario Regiment (RCAC) Museum.

The next morning we arrived at the event and met a lot of the guys from the forums at AxisandAllies.org as well as many people like us that love war games. We set up Global and got down to a 5 man game with Ray, Steven, and Albert as the Allies and Gerald and myself as the Axis. These are some pics from that game. As it was getting later in the evening, I decided as Germany to take my shot at Moscow and got my ass handed to me and we called it an Allies Victory.

Around 14:00 the Museum put on a show for us with an operational Sherman tank. It was awesome seeing it booting around! I was surprised at how quiet the engine was. I seem to recall there being a note in the promotional material about not being able to ride in the tank but Jeremy must have greased a few palms!

If anyone got to take a ride in it I'm glad it was him. This event took a lot of work and that's a Hell of a reward!
Here's some more pics from the museum

This one's for sale only $2500 and it runs!

The table to our one side was the greatest this ever. It was put together by Field Marshal Jamie and if I ever thought that I've gone too far with the time and effort I put into my game, I think that no longer. I wish my camera could do it better justice but the board is made with elevations for land an sea, with the Himalaya's raised up and everything airbrushed,  the table top has pockets for the FMG Ammo Crate unit boxes and built in rolling boards. Covered in glass to protect the map it is the most beautiful A&A Anniversary map ever!

On the other side of us there was a big game of Global going on played by Surprise Attack, Vance, Trisdin, Jason, Clyde and Gargantua.

Sunday we slept in and were late we were supposed to get a game of Classic in with Clyde but because of our drunken tardiness (Sorry dude, too much Jameson Saturday night) he got into a different game and Ray and I met up with Dave T which turned out well because he said he's not too far from our home base and said he might be up to making a trip to the garage! Dave and I played the Allies and Ray was the axis. We took down Germany but it looked real grim for the Soviets as the tankfest rolled into Moscow but the Reds rolled their best dice of the day and then the following attack also failed. Most of the heavy work was done, however by the USA/UK. Allies win.

What a weekend! It was awesome. There were a lot of door prizes and I won some cool units from Historical Boardgaming and a sweet dice pouch from FMG which was perfect because my old one was too small now that the Canadian, French and ANZAC dice were available at the Con. I also picked up the Italian units from FMG, which look amazing!

I'll post pics of the stuff I picked up there after I get the latest podcast edited and uploaded. I can't wait to paint those Italians.

Here's a shot of all the loot I picked up and won at FMGC12. I sold 2 of the packs of Italians to Ray. Now we've got even more units to paint, those Italian tanks have swiveling turrets so I'll need to be careful with the paint!

It was a fantastic event and my hat is off to Jeremy and everyone else involved, thanks so much guys we're definitely coming next year!

Another Global Alpha Game

We started a new Global marathon this past Sunday with Mugsy as Axis and Ray and I as the Allies. The week leading up to the game I touched up the paint on the Soviet Infantry and made a new Russian Hero.

Since Germany went with the Aircraft Carrier round 1 UK bought nothing but infantry first round and I was afraid this would lose the Med for UK But I managed to hammer the Italian fleet and leave an AC off the coast of Italy and bring troops up to Greece. Italy threw its remaining fleet and fighters at the AC and didn't hit once, effectively crippling them for 3-4 rounds.
Japan massed their fleet at Carolines and went after ANZAC.

However they only had 1 transport and the Aussies took it back next round. Due to ANZAC holding their money first round though this meant Japan had a nice 30 IPC payday.
Japan bought a laboratory and on their first roll acquired Improved Shipyards which will make the Americans job difficult in the future.
UK also developed Long Range Aircraft.
With Italy neutered France had a little fun and we saw our first instance of a French roundel on the board.
Germany was slow to get to the eastern front and USSR took advantage taking the three borderlands and ended up collecting 58 IPC in round 4.
USA took its time building up a large navy and in round 4 came at the Japanese at home as the large fleet was too far away.
Japan meanwhile spent their ANZAC money on a major IC for Korea and went after the Soviets

Germany at start of round 6 just didn't have enough troops ready to go into Russia but over all the game was too close for us to call an advantage so we finished round 6 and called it a day.

Next weekend Ray and I are going up to the Field Marshal Games Convention in Oshawa so I wrote down the set up, and packed up the game and we'll continue this one in two weeks.

Episode 12

In which we almost get Ray to submit to the might of the Allies! Things are looking grim for the Axis of Evil as he is forced to address the West Germany problem and the Japan is screwed problem.
This is round 7 of our 1940 Global Alpha game and to be honest it should be the last. but we'll be back next week for the thrilling conclusion.

Episode 11

Round 6 in it's entirety! Less than an hour and a half! We put the coals to Ray's feet and got a move on this turn.

Apologies for no game last Sunday. Ray and Mugsy played over at Ray's place but I couldn't make it as I had previous arrangements what with Wrestlemania and all. The Hell in a Cell match between Undertaker and Triple H was worth missing the week. We'll be playing and recording next Sunday, then off to the Field Marshal Games Convention in Oshawa for the 21-22 of April! Can't wait!

Leave comments on the episode below please. Also if you leave feedback on iTunes we can get noticed, even if it's bad. Our first iTunes comment was pretty bad but it's a start. We think we know who left it and it's fine with us but more on that in Episode 13.

Good day eh!
