2 Player Global

Last Sunday, sorry for the late post, Mugzy and I played a game of Global with the Alpha 3 rules from the Harris Game Design site. I was the Axis and Mugzy played the Allies. It was the playing debut of the fully painted Field Marshal Games Italians.

I always feel lost as Japan in Global. Never sure when or where to declare war.

The blue pawn represents a large German force ready to load the 8 transports and the Beige pawn is the UK defense force in London.

I took London with 3 tanks left and a couple planes. This seriously slowed my push to Moscow though and would prove to be too costly to defend.

Meanwhile the Bully USA picks on a lone Japanese destroyer.

The purple pawn is the Red Army coming towards Germany.

Mugzy looks on as Japan flounders in the Pacific.

In the end there was little I could do to end the Soviet juggernaut's sweep through Europe. UK was knocked out of the game on both sides of the world and the USA never got to Europe, though they were in Africa, and Germany just couldn't get things going in the USSR. My conclusion is that Sea Lion costs too much and is not worth the gains.

Episode 27

The Final Victory Day Episode:

Mugzy and Randy play as the Allies and Ray and I are so hammered we don't even remember what happened in this episode. Well I do as I edited it but it all a blur. Enjoy folks!

I hope to put up some pics of a game of Global Mugzy and I played last Sunday in the next couple days. If you follow us on Twitter you've seen them already!

Episode 26

Victory Day continues with drunken revelry Axis and Allies 1942 on Randy's gigantic board.

Randy and Mugzy gang up on me and Ray.

My partner and I play the Axis side and from the sounds of it we were pretty smashed. I don't remember much except that Randy used the pull back and punch hard technique with Russia and Ray remembers nothing of this game but the huge map.

Guadalcanal

Sunday Ray and I tried out a new game. New to us anyway. I picked it up from Larry Harris himself from his Yard Sale post on Harris Game Design. It took us about an hour or so to look through the rulebook
and then set it up.

Then it was time to pound the beers and roll the dice, er, shake the dice.

My first move was to bring my entire fleet to the middle of the board.

This fight here took out almost all my air force.

Lucky for me only one of my capital ships was sunk here but it tied the game.

This was the situation at the end of round 4. Ray kicked my but on New Georgia but I had troops remaining so he controlled the island. I however controlled the first airfield and used my supply tokens to build another one making it my third while the USA only had two. Thus the Japanese win.

We had fun and now have a better idea of what needs to be done, how, and when. Next time I'm sure Ray will purchase more supply tokens and I could see this game coming down to who kills more capital ships. We were playing more defensive as we had no idea what we were doing but it was fun and I think if we ever get stuck with just two players again we will give this another go. Great game.

Episode 25

Victory Day continues, and surprisingly Ray is still out of his mind drunk. It's round 7 of the game of Classic where Randy joined us mid game last episode and took over a very strong Japan and helped Ray on the Axis side.

We've got a few more episodes from Victory Day banked and a few from a game at Rays place from a couple weeks after that so we haven't recorded in quite a while. Mugzy is unavailable tomorrow but Ray and I hope to play Guadalcanal as it a two player game. I got that and D-Day from Larry Harris a short time ago with signed boxes and can't wait to try them out. We won't be recording however but hope to start again maybe next week when all three of us are together. Maybe I'll scrap the recorded episodes from Ray's place and we can have more up to date episodes. We played Anniversary that day but I'd like to record with the guys playing D-Day as none of us has any experience with it.

Episode 24

The action continues from Soviet Victory Day as Ray is no longer ganged up on and Randy (MrMalachiCrunch from axisandallies.org) shows up and takes over the Generalship of Japan. We also finally hit the Vodka, as if Ray needed it.
