2 and a Half Games and No Ray

Ray didn't show up today as Mugzy and I finished the game of AA50 from last time and played two games of AA42.2

This little bastard killed a Russian Inf and two tanks.
And to add insult to injury it took Moscow when I foolishly forgot to cover Novosibirsk.
The Allies luck wasn't all bad though, USA got Improved Shipyards, and UK got Jet Fighters as well as Heavy Bombers.

After this fight went poorly for Japan and Germany lost her Capitol, The Axis threw in the towel.

After that we played two games of A&A 42 2nd Edition. Both games were won by the Axis but rather than declare the game broken we chalked it up to less than perfect Allied strategy. I don't think you need to play the Allies perfect you need to be pretty close.

New Guy Adam

Last Sunday we got one and a half games in and had a new player, Adam. The first game was Classic and to spice it up a bit we used the National Objectives from the second edition rules. Ray and I were the Axis and Mugzy and Adam were the Allies.
Japan took over India pretty quick.
The big Karelia fight didn't go too well for the Germans

In the end the Japanese were collecting way too much money and had the hammer on Moscow so the Allies threw in the towel.
Next we played the 41 set up for Anniversary. Ray and I remained partners but switched teams. Mugzy and Adam were the Axis this time.

Japan is doing pretty well but haven't pushed too hard into USSR. USA is merely trying to keep up with the navy of Japan while building on their Norway factory to hit Poland.

Adam had to take off after a couple rounds and Ray took off around midnight. Mugzy and I continued until about 3 AM when we called it. the game has been saved until next Sunday.

Episode 35

Our first foray into the realm of Second Edition of 1942 comes to an end. We are not amused. Rest assured we will give this game another go in the future as we love the map and the new units are cool as shit. Mugzy rolled like a champ to Ray and my's chump but we're not dice whiners so we'll have to give it another shot. On a side note, we played but didn't record a second game that went late into the night and with a few adjustments in strategy the Allies won the day. So this game is not broken in our minds.

Neutrals

I got my neutrals from HBG last week and decided to paint them up. I didn't really look into any historical uniforms for the 4 different paint schemes except to google pictures of any Mongolian Infantry I could find. The only pictures I saw were of a blue and red type uniform that after given my personal interpretation resulted in a soldier that looks more at home protecting the Cobra Comander that the Hordes of Gengis Khans decendants. Here they are. I highly recomend picking these up from HBG to enhance your games. Neutral units are, of course, not necessary for game play but we like our shit to look cool as Hell.

Classic with the Cards Mod

Yesterday we played 2 games of Classic Axis & Allies with a mod Ray added years ago. Ray made up a bunch of cards with bonuses. We pay 3 IPC for one or 2 for 5. The cards might give a bonus such as Battleships attack at 5 or a troop bonus such as one that gives Germany 2 Infantry, 2 tanks and 2 fighters in Berlin. You can sometimes, in fact often, buy a card that benefits your enemy. This in fact screwed us once as we were ready to go into Berlin and we bought a card at the beginning of UK's turn and pulled the above boost to Germany's defenses.

This game saw Ray and I as the Allies and Mugzy as Axis.

I replaced our old beer cap scoreboard with the scoreboard from my blown up 42 map, which is glued to a cookie sheet and hung on the wall so it's out of the way, magnets on the bottom of the Infantry keep them up and out of the way.
Round one went well for UK in Africa and the Mediterranean but poorly for Russia.

After 3 rounds Germany was ready and took out Moscow. Japan faltered but it didn't matter.

This was the killer. Germany had a transport just outside the Mediterranean and could bring in 2 Infantry. USA got cocky and left only 2 Infantry to defend. Mugzy took a chance and got a hit in the first round and the second hit in the third round. I got no hits as you can see. It was such a rookie mistake that I feel like a total idiot telling it. This, to my knowledge, is the first time in any of our games that Washington has fallen.
We had a small chance to take it back but figured it wouldn't matter too much so we didn't even roll any UK dice. Well done Mugzy!
Next game I moved over to take USSR and Pacific USA, Mugzy got UK and Eastern USA while Ray took Axis. USSR would not lose Karelia fist round this time!
Mugzy got a huge break and kept his fleet while taking out a lot of Luftwaffe and gaining an extra Carrier due to cards. He came into Berlin but Ray had 3 fighters in the Berlin blow up box that they forgot about after UK won. They re-rolled and UK's dice weren't as hot.

Russia was in serious danger by round 3 or 4.

Japan went hog wild in this game and was collecting 60+ but Germany was gone by this point. It was a strange game that saw no Soviets or Nazis on the board at one point, the Japanese were in Brazil and Africa but couldn't deal with the British shit storm of tanks that were coming and resigned.

It's fun as Hell breaking out the old game from time to time and we had an awesome day. Ray introduced me to a Nova Scotia culinary masterpiece called a Donair. Frigging awesome. In two weeks we'll pick up the dice again and hopefully Russia will have a better go of it, unless of course I'm the Axis.
